Alyssa turns ONE!

I say it every time, and every time it’s true.  The first year of life goes so. darn. fast!  SO many changes and I love when I have a client who purchases a “first year” package.  Every 3 months (or so) when I show up, it is so fun to see all of the new grown-up things they can do.  😉  We did Alyssa’s one year session this month and it was bitter sweet- can’t believe the year is done!  Her mom is ah-mazing at coming up with great outfits, and in this case, awesome props.  I even borrowed the cake stand and sign for my own Olivia’s 1 year session (which is next week and btw… completely insane that she is also turning ONE!).  I might steal her balloon idea too, love that she arrived with one giant pink balloon, just perfect.  We started off with some pretty photos of a pretty girl, and then dove into to her cake smash.

And let them eat cake!  And side note- I’m on day 11 (but who’s counting) of ZERO sugar and dairy.  And basically editing this cake smash last night might have been one of the hardest moments of my life.  Real dedication on my part, just sayin’.

Isn’t this the most gorgeous cake ever!?  It’s from Mariano’s and yes, I’ve already ordered one exactly like it for Olivia.  Copy-cat, yes.  But seriously, I must have it.  (for Olivia, not me, I promise)

z1.2z4z5z6After her cake smash, we cleaned her up and headed to our outdoor location.  Her mom wanted a photo of her holding her balloon on a bridge and I knew there was a pretty bridge nearby.  One teeny-tiny problem, the light in the middle of the day is awful.  Like really, really awful.  Photographer lesson of the day:   bright sun = harsh shadows, squinty eyes, and in this case, the rails on the bridge would have created stripes on this sweet girl’s face.  So plan B, we met at 7:00 that night to catch the shots then.  I promised them it would be worth the wait, and glad they remained flexible.  🙂

z7Yep, love that evening light!z8z9This mama is so sweet with her little girl- completely smitten.  And why wouldn’t she be? 🙂z10Thanks Megan and Matt- loved watching your beautiful little girl grow this year!  See you soon!
