This week I had the honor of photographing two births! The lack of sleep is made up for by the adrenaline pumping, exciting, beautiful moments I get to witness. This was my first time working with this family and what a special way to get to know them!
Melissa’s water broke about 2:00 a.m. (a first for her since that never happened with her previous four!), and I arrived at the hospital around 7:00 a.m. to see how she was doing.
She was a total champion mama, just beginning contractions and labor was beginning. Their 13-year-old daughter was with them and ready to witness her first birth. Of course taking some time to check Snapchat too. 😉
Her doula, midwife and husband made the perfect birth team. Keeping close watch over her, taking her cues as to what would make her comfortable.
As labor pains picked up, Melissa decided to labor in the shower. She has had a few epidural -free births before, but this time she was passionate about going for a completely natural birth with no interventions or inductions (whoa mama!). Both her doula and midwife both felt she might be comfortable there. She was planning on a tub, but sadly the rooms at the hospital that had tubs were all taken. But to her surprise the shower was just what she needed, and she ended up doing almost all of her labor in the shower. Her husband, always by her side, so supportive and loving.
Everyone taking their turn peeking at his perfect little face.
And then quickly the room was filled with grandma, and his four siblings. Their reactions to seeing him for the first time were priceless. They were SO in love, busy oohing and ahhhing over him immediately.
